Lloyd’s Register Foundation (LRF), is a UK registered charity and sole shareholder of Lloyd’s Register Group Ltd. and invests in science, engineering and technology for public benefit, worldwide.

Set up in 2012, its public benefit history dates back to 1760 through Lloyd’s Register. The Foundation is also building on the work of The Lloyd’s Register Educational Trust, a charity which operated from 2004 to 2013.

LRF award grants to organisations that can deliver a structured programme of activities for education, training and research in the fields of transportation, science, engineering, technology and the safety of life. The objectives and mission of the Foundation remain the same as those of Lloyd’s Register, to protect life and property and to advance transport and engineering education and research … because life matters.

The Lloyd’s Register Foundation supports the work of IMLI by providing annually fellowships which are intended for deserving government nominated candidates who wish to purse post-graduate studies in international maritime law at IMLI.
