Are IMLI degrees recognized?

The IMLI LL.M. degree is recognized worldwide as Level 7 Master’s degree. For more information you may visit https://ncfhe.gov.mt/en/register/Pages/register.aspx. The Institute is currently in the process of having all its other degrees and certificates duly recognized.

Do I need to be based in Malta to undertake Ph.D. studies?

The Research Degree programme can be undertaken largely from abroad without the need to be based at the Institute during the period of studies. However, the Director reserves the right to request students pursuing studies in the programme to attend lectures relevant to their topics. Students may also apply to the Director to attend said lectures on voluntary basis.

What are the costs to enrol in IMLI’s programmes?

Are there any online programmes available?

All programmes at IMLI are attendance based. However, the Institute is looking into the possibility of offering online specialized short courses which will be advertised in due course.

Can a person who is not an IMLI student use IMLI Library, and what are the conditions for such use?

A person who whishes to conduct a research using IMLI Library, can do so after his/her application for such use is approved by the Director of the Institute. Application forms are available at the Library.

Is IMLI Library a lending library?

Apart from IMLI students, no other user of the Library can borrow books or other materials from it. Complete research has to be done on the premises.

What are the Library’s opening hours?

The Library’s opening hours are 12.30 pm to 7.30 pm Monday to Thursday and 12.30 pm to 6.30 pm on Fridays. The Library is generally closed during the summer months, unless its use is specially approved by the Director of the Institute, in which cases its use is limited to regular office hours of the Institute (8.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m.).    

Is it possible to order photocopies of library materials and to what extent?

Photocopies may be ordered with the Librarian and may be collected after 24 hours upon payment of the appropriate fee - currently 7 Euro cents per sheet. (Orders placed on Fridays can be collected on Mondays).
Photocopies can be provided only in small quantities of 30 pages per student per day and in accordance with copyright regulations.  Photocopying for any purpose other than for private study or research in excess of  “fair use” is an infringement of copyright and therefore only a part of a book or chapter or single article or part of a magazine is allowed.
